Focused on the Environment

We are committed to best practices in sustainability across our operations.

GT Trax is leading the way in its commitment to sustainability, and we always work to minimise our environmental impact. Our products are created with environmentally friendly materials, and we ensure that all waste is managed properly and recycled whenever possible.

The hire model is inherently sustainable. Every trackway panel, walkway mat and crowd control barrier in our fleet is used again and again — sometimes hundreds of times over its service life — keeping single-use alternatives out of landfill. When you hire from GT Trax, you are choosing a lower-carbon approach to ground protection without compromising on quality or safety.

We are deliberate about the materials that go into our products. Our WalkOvers pedestrian mats are manufactured from recycled vehicle tyres, diverting rubber waste from landfill and turning it into safe, anti-slip walkways. The PowerTrax range — our heavy-duty trackway panels — is made from recycled HMPE plastic sourced from end-of-run industrial plastics including old kitchen stalls, electrical cable sheathing and water pipes. These materials would otherwise have no second life; instead, they form the backbone of products trusted on construction sites and festival grounds across the UK.

Sustainability at GT Trax goes beyond the products we hire out. We have invested in solar generation, rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient buildings and electric vehicle charging at our Cambridgeshire depot. Every operational decision — from the timers on our floodlights to the way we clean and maintain our fleet — is made with an eye on reducing our environmental footprint. Read on for more on the innovative steps we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise our environmental impact.

Some of the green measures we have implemented

Aerial view of a long grey building with solar panels covering its roof, bordered by a fenced field and a works yard.

Solar

  • 10 x 50Kw panels
  • Providing energy to National Grid
  • Supplying required power to run wash sheds and cleaning machinery
Three large black water tanks, two smaller tanks in cages, and a central pump setup outdoors by a metal fence.

Recycled Water

  • All cleaning machines run on recycled rain water
  • Rain water collected from warehouse roofing designs
  • 10 tonnes of water collected from every inch of rain
Large grey warehouse alongside an outdoor yard packed with stacks of paving stones and building materials. Rural setting with fields.

Yard

  • Recycled office from a school
  • 12 inch insulation & extra cladding
  • Timers on floodlights & heating
  • Car charging points installed
Weathered corrugated metal storage building with large open doors. Crates of produce and wooden pallets outside.

Recycled Products

  • PT20/40/60s — Recycled HMPE plastic (old kitchen stalls, end of run plastics i.e. electric cables & water pipes)
  • Walkovers — recycled tyres

Choosing hire is a sustainable choice

Every time a contractor hires ground protection mats instead of buying single-use plywood sheets, the environmental benefit is immediate. Our reusable trackway and walkway systems eliminate the waste stream associated with disposable alternatives — no timber sent to landfill, no plastic sheeting discarded after one event, no unnecessary manufacturing emissions for products that would be used once and thrown away.

We also maintain our fleet to the highest standard, extending the working life of every panel and mat well beyond what cheaper, disposable options could achieve. When a product does eventually reach the end of its serviceable life, we recycle the materials back into the manufacturing chain wherever possible — closing the loop on waste.
